Roving Networks offers its customers a number of technologies and products aimed at simplifying RF projects. Roving technology is designed to reduce development cycles and decrease overall time to market.
Roving's core competences are based around standard wireless protocols, specifically, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Selecting the preferred technology in some cases can be very straight forward however it can in others, be more complex.
In general, Bluetooth offers customers a secure point-to-point connection and can be considered as basic serial cable replacement, while Wi-Fi adds internet connectivity.
Bluetooth was created in 1994 by Ericsson, conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 cables.
Today Bluetooth is managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and is formed through a membership of more than 14,000 member companies with each member having an expertise in areas such as telecommunication, computing, networking, and consumer electronics.
Roving Networks is a proud member of SIG and offers customers a large portfolio of pre-certified Bluetooth modules and adapters. Roving's solution provides a very simple interface allowing customers to avoid the long learning curves associated with Bluetooth and RF design. Additionally, with Roving's field proven history in the field of battery operated Bluetooth devices, customers can have faith that their solution will perform at the highest caliber.
Wi-Fi, (Wireless Fidelity) is a networking standard now used by over a billion people and with about 800 million new Wi-Fi devices coming online every year.
Wi-Fi technology builds on the IEEE 802.11 standard. The IEEE develops and publishes the standard, but does not test equipment for compliance with it. The non-profit Wi-Fi Alliance formed in 1999 to fill this void. Manufacturers with membership in the Wi-Fi Alliance, whose products pass the certification process, gain the right to mark those products with the Wi-Fi logo. Roving Networks is proud to offer a large portfolio of pre-certified Wi-Fi modules and adapters. As with the Bluetooth portfolio, Roving's solution surpasses all other solutions in the market through its ease of use, in addition however, Roving's solution is also the only Wi-Fi solution designed to operate on batteries as part of its initial design criteria making it the lowest power consuming Wi-Fi solution available.
