RN-131

RN-131

802.11 b/g Ultra-low power, surface mount module

DESCRIPTION

Roving's most popular Wi-Fi module, the RN-131, is a complete, ultra-low power embedded TCP/IP solution.

The combination of ultra-low power and the ability to wake up, connect to a wireless network, send data, and return to sleep mode in less than 100 milliseconds, allows the RN-131 to run for years on two standard AAA batteries.  Using only 35mA when awake and 4uA when asleep, this remarkable power efficiency makes possible a new class of internet-enabled products.

The RN-131 incorporates a 2.4 GHz radio, processor, TCP/IP stack, real-time clock, crypto accelerator, power management, and analog sensor interfaces.  This complete solution is pre-loaded with software to simplify integration and minimize development time for applications.  In the simplest configuration, the hardware only requires four connections (PWR, TX, RX, GND) to create a wireless data connection.

The RN-131 is available in 2 temperature grades.  The RN-131G is rated for industrial operating temperatures (-40C to +85C).  The RN-131C has all the features and capabilities of the RN-131G, but is rated for commercial temperature (0C to +70C).  The RN-131C is the perfect choice for those looking for a complete, low power, lower cost Wi-Fi module.

For the developer, Roving offers an evaluation board based on the RN-131, the RN-134.  Additionally, both development kits, the RN-134-K and RN-131G-EVAL, are based on the RN-134 and include everything a developer needs to begin prototyping and designing with the RN-131 module.
