RN-111B
  • WiFly 802.11b WLAN Serial Embedded Module
  • Part#: RN-111B

As of Nov 1, 2009 the RN-111B has been replaced by the RN-121.  The RN-111B will no longer be available for purchase after Jan 1st, 2010

The WiFly RN-111B module is a complete, ultra low power embedded TCP/IP solution.  The device enables wireless connections to any legacy serial port and supports TTL 3.3VDC signaling at a rate of up to 921Kbps over the UART interface.  Just attach to the UART of your embedded microprocessor or level shift your RS232 signals, and you're connected.  The transmit range can be up to 330' (100m), depending upon environmental considerations.

The RN-111B can be powered from multiple supply options:  4VDC-12VDC unregulated, 3.3V regulated, or low power (2-3V) battery source.  It also uses industry standard 802.11b specifications and protocols.

There are many ways to utilize the RN-111B module.  It opens connection to a remote port on a remote server, it listens and accepts connections from a remote IP host, and it wakes and broadcasts via UDP (It also receives UDP).

The RN-111B is available in four different configurations.  The RN-111B-E (pictured) has an SMA jack, the RN-111B-R has a reverse polarity SMA jack, the RN-111B-S has a chip antenna, and the RN-111B-W has a wire antenna.

Developers will want to use the RN-111B-EVAL evaluation board for prototyping and designing their WiFly systems.  It contains all hardware and software components required to configure and setup Roving Networks' WiFly 802.11 modules.
